We’d
like to give you an impression of all that is involved in running
a plantation.
Besides,
it would enable you to choose in which season you’d like to come
and rent the casita for a long weekend, a week or perhaps a
mid-week.
Blooming
time: May/June/July.
The
trees will be fully in bloom, which is a beautiful sight because
the trees are full of little white flowers. In the centre of some
of these flowers green buds are forming. These will grow into
olives.
Clean-up
time: August/September/October.
Once
the trees have finished blooming they will lose their leaves/flowers.
This means clean-up time. This waste is being used to heighten the
terraces so they’ll be stronger in their function as a water
dam. |

Harvesting:
November/December/January. (during a full harvest also in February).
Besides
using a shaker machine we also make use of rakes to remove
leftover olives out of the trees. The olives will fall into nets,
which will be emptied into crates. Within
2 days we’ll take a minimum of
350 kg
over to a small private mill in order to obtain the best possible
quality of olive oil.
Pruning:
March/April.
Once
the harvest is done it’s time to prune back the trees. Every
other year this needs to be done thoroughly. The year in between
it only needs a light pruning.
Fertilizing.
Right
after pruning but before the trees are blooming, we’ll need to
fertilize the trees.
The
trees receive extra fertilizer due to the poor soil condition and
the age of the trees.
Outside
of that we’ll do a last clean-up under the trees and repair the
pathways.
